Perimeter Drains and Preventing Problems

Property damage, poor indoor air quality, and lower home resale value are just a few of the consequences associated with basement flooding and water damage. If you’ve ever noticed water in your basement, there’s a good chance it’s because your home’s perimeter drainage system has failed. Perimeter drains are the underground pipes that run along the outside of your home. These drain systems, the most current of which are made with perforated PVC piping, channel rainwater and excess groundwater away from your house. Older homes may have perimeter drain systems made of clay and concrete. These systems, over time, are more susceptible to blockage from tree roots, silt, or leaves. The pipes themselves can even be crushed or misaligned by earth movement.

If either problem is left untreated, water may be forced up against the foundation or under your basement floor, which can lead to basement flooding. It’s easy for a homeowner to forget about perimeter drains because they aren’t in plain view. This can result in significant foundation damage that comes from — seemingly — out of nowhere. Whether you suspect your home has a perimeter drainage problem, you have a leaky basement that defies explanation, or you think your drains may be in need of maintenance, Flintstones can inspect your drainage system and can help you get to the bottom of any issues using a drain camera. If a clog is the problem, we may be able to remove enough debris with our modern equipment to restore proper flow. If the clog is too severe or another problem is the cause, you may choose to replace part or all of the perimeter drainage system. In order to prevent these problems, it’s important to be informed. Our perimeter drainage specialists offer free consultations that will provide you with the best plan of action to solve your drainage issues and to prevent future problems.
